Calendar Update & K1s

January 26, 2011 | Comments Off | NEWS

The AAA 2010/11 season calendar has been updated again. The latest version is on MSRC’s Web site, in the “MSRC Links” sidebar. This update is of particular interest to K1s, as it shows a change in venue for one of the K1 races. Nancy Greeners should also view this updated version.

Anyone who attended the K1 races in PEI last weekend - we would love to post a summary, including race results. Don’t wait for someone else to do it, as it probably won’t happen. Send your summary to web@msrc.ca.

The attached photo is from a K1 PEI photo album uploaded yesterday to MSRC’s Flickr site. Many mercis to the photographer. Anyone else who has photos from this race can upload them to the same Flickr album. Contact Annette for uploading details.

If you are not subscribed to MSRC’s YouTube site, then you may be unaware that additional videos are posted almost weekly.

MSRC Racing to the Podium

January 23, 2011 | Comments Off | NEWS

This is such a great photo of Nick at Farlagne last weekend – crisp, clean, colourful, high resolution – awesome. I just had to post it.

Many thanks to Jack for standing on the course for hours, taking photos of all the racers. You’ll find his photos on MSRC’s Facebook page. Four of them are also reproduced in MSRC’s Flickr Farlagne 2011 album.

Hot off the press news – our K1s were outstanding in PEI this weekend. The unofficial word is that “MacKenzie won three silvers and a bronze and Kate won 1 silver, 1 bronze and a fourth place.

Well done K1s, and keep those photos and videos coming.

It Was A Long Drive

January 17, 2011 | Comments Off | NEWS

Farlagne kicked off the 2011 race season, and by all accounts, it was worth the gas money. MSRC was represented at all levels, K2 through to J2, plus three race coaches, parents and non-racing siblings.

The air was crisp, but an unusually windless Saturday robbed Farlagne of its unbelievably cold reputation. Both the Saturday SL and Sunday GS courses looked spectacular from the finish line. Alpine NB / Farlagne deserved all the credit they received for a well- run race weekend.

Judging from the amount of water on the side of the pool at 10 pm, instead of in it, après ski maintained its appeal. I was pleased to learn that during the kid throwing contest, against a visiting hockey team, MSRC showed comradery among racers by chucking an athlete from Ben Eoin. They won.

If you have not received notification that the Farlagne 2011 videos have been posted to MSRC’s YouTube site, then you are not subscribed to MSRC’s YouTube site. Farlagne photos are also posted on our Flickr site and we encourage all other videographers and photographers to upload their Farlagne images. If you would like to see one of your photos or videos on MSRC’s Web site home page this year, upload them to You Tube / Flickr – that is where they are chosen. Check out today’s Web site home page for a couple of photo refreshments. We can change them frequently if we have the photos.

Calendars for 2010/11 Season

December 4, 2010 | Comments Off | NEWS

The training / race calendars for K1s, K2s and Js are now on the MSRC Links section of the club’s Web site. Watch for the N.Greene calendar being posted in the near future.

MSRC Links is where we post down-loadable documents you may require throughout the season. It is found within the right-hand bar of every Web page.

Also, for new K1 parents, within MSRC Links you will find a list of the hills we ski, including links to their respective Web sites. A great way to get directions to the various hills.

K1s in their Club Jackets

So, welcome to the world of junior ski racing. MSRC just held its in-house ski swap and is about to hold its public equipment swap. Did anyone explain the difference to you, and are you wondering where you fit in to either? Do you have a race suit yet? Do you need one at entry K1 level? And how about goggles – should I buy special race goggles or can we just use the ones s/he had for Nancy Greene last year? So many unknowns. It’s like first year university, without the toga party.

If you require answers to these or any other question, do one or more of the following:

1. Talk to a K1 MSRC coach – they know exactly what you need, and will even help you with sizing. This year’s K1 coaches are Marcel Ritter and Hanna Nichols.

2. Talk to your K1 parent rep – Scott Carr.

3. Sign up for the MSRC news feed. Log on to www.msrc.ca, type your email address into the “Stay Updated” box and hit “Subscribe”. This is an RSS feed that will automatically send you notification when new information has been posted to MSRC’s Web news pages. You can unsubscribe at any time.

4. Email your query to MSRC Online by emailing web@msrc.ca   Don’t be shy – we’ve all been there.

5. Watch for a “K1 Parents” link to appear in the near future on the Website’s sidebar. It will be an anonymous collation of questions and answers relevant to final-year Nancy Greene and first-year K1 Parents.

Attention Parents, Coaches & Executive

Will you be volunteering for MSRC this year, in any capacity? If so, then you need to complete the ACA Membership form provided below and return it to the MSRC office before snow fall. It is required for insurance purposes.

2010 ACA Membership Form

If you completed the form in a previous year, you still need to complete and return it again this year, as it changes annually.

You also need to complete the form if you are a member of staff (e.g. all coaches). But MSRC athletes do not need to complete a separate ACA membership form as it is a component of the MSRC registration form.

Sport Nova Scotia Recognizes MSRC

August 16, 2010 | Comments Off | NEWS

Photos from the 2010 Ricoh Sport Awards night are now posted on the club’s Fick’r site. My apology for the late posting.

Sport Nova Scotia recognized MSRC’s Cheyenne Coates as Female Individual Athlete of the Year – Alpine Skiing. As stated in the awards program: “Cheyenne beat 15 ski racers to win first overall for 16-18 year olds in the Nova Scotia / Atlantic Cup series. This is the highest award for 16-18 year olds who compete in all Nova Scotia Cup races. Cheyenne was one of 20 people named to the Nova Scotia Canada Games 2011 Development Team.”

Sport Nova Scotia recognized MSRC’s Jordan Gibson as Male Individual Athlete of the Year – Alpine Skiing: “Jordan was the leader of the pack in the Nova Scotia / Atlantic Cup series. Jordan finished first overall among 12 competitors on the circuit for 16-18-year-olds racing in Nova Scotia. The Martock skier had 13 podium finishes in the 2008/09 season and was one of four Nova Scotian’s to earn a 2010 Ski Canada Magazine Award.”

Sport Nova Scotia recognized MSRC’s Edward Whitehouse as the winner of the 2010 Ricoh Fair Play Award: “Edward Whitehouse has been a member of the Martock Ski Race Club for the last four years. Any challenges he has are overshadowed by his attitude towards the sport of skiing and, even more so, towards his teammates.”

Never Miss Another Race Notice

March 4, 2010 | Comments Off | NEWS

Notices for all upcoming races attended by MSRC are posted on the side bar of every page of the club’s Web site. The notice for this month’s Poley race has just been posted.

In the same area of the side bar you may also access race results, both live as they happen and after the fact.

If you would like to see one of your race day photos posted in a future news item, upload it to the club’s Flick’r site. News photos are chosen randomly from these Flick’r photo sets.
