The early season training camp at Le Massif, Quebec was a great time. Given the lack of snow everywhere we made out pretty well, with very little traffic on the mountain. Coaches spent a lot of time team building when athletes were off the hill which gave our younger athletes a chance to get to know the older athletes. We had a super group of chaperons that attended the camp which helped to make everything run smoothly. Check out the flicker site for photos of the trip.

It was no joke traveling to Crabbe on April fools day, to race the last events of the Altantic Alpine series. Winter gave us one last blast to cap off a fun-filled and successful race season. The snow also supposedly interfered with the television reception at the Riverside Resort but that is a whole other story….
Our nine and ten year old EL racers were particularly impressive at Crabbe. Maura Whitman, Lindsay Myles, Nelson Krueswski, Walker Johnston and Christopher Davis demonstrated the depth of our Nancy Greene development program and the quality of our coaches. The prospects for the future of MSRC are very promising.
It was so exciting to watch these Nancy Greeners conquer the same GS course on King’s Horn as the older racers. Lindsay Myles was able to experience the view from the podium four times (two Slalom Gold, one GS Gold and one GS Bronze).
K1 Racer Kate Freeman was also golden, winning the K1 GS event. Veteran MSRC racer Thomas Boudreau made a trip to the podium as well, capturing the J2 Slalom bronze medal.
Congratulations is also extended to MacKenzie Carr, K1 boys Atlantic Cup Gold Medalist, and Kate Freeman, K1 girls Atlantic Cup silver medalist!
Final belated note: Kate Freeman and MacKenzie Carr both qualified for the Whistler Cup.
Atlantic Canada’s junior alpine ski race clubs descended upon Ben Eoin, Cape Breton, March 12 – 13 to consume a range of weather conditions, racing, and good times in nearby Sydney.
Despite heavy rain at times and challenging snow conditions, Saturday’s slalom races were completed almost as planned, with Martock Ski Race Club scooping seven podium positions in all.
With the Delta Hotel being shared by a visiting hockey team on Saturday night, visitors may have witnessed various activities, including new records being set for the now annual MSRC water slide competition. For the record, the luggage trolley stacked with large pizzas was for the hockey team, and I thought the person who showed up in the first-floor restaurant wearing a bikini demonstrated the club’s spunk and irreverence towards lousy weather.
The bikini gods listened. Sunday delivered spectacular spring skiing under sunny Bras d’ Or skies. Race organizers tucked in three GS races as the last days of Atlantic Canadian skiing melted before us.
Watch for Jack’s Facebook posting of his race photos, other parent photos posted on Flick’r and videos on MSRC’s YouTube site. If you attended Ben Eoin and have the full race results, please forward to web@msrc.ca for an addendum posting to this summary.
