Sport Nova Scotia Recognizes MSRC

August 16, 2010 | Comments Off | NEWS

Photos from the 2010 Ricoh Sport Awards night are now posted on the club’s Fick’r site. My apology for the late posting.

Sport Nova Scotia recognized MSRC’s Cheyenne Coates as Female Individual Athlete of the Year – Alpine Skiing. As stated in the awards program: “Cheyenne beat 15 ski racers to win first overall for 16-18 year olds in the Nova Scotia / Atlantic Cup series. This is the highest award for 16-18 year olds who compete in all Nova Scotia Cup races. Cheyenne was one of 20 people named to the Nova Scotia Canada Games 2011 Development Team.”

Sport Nova Scotia recognized MSRC’s Jordan Gibson as Male Individual Athlete of the Year – Alpine Skiing: “Jordan was the leader of the pack in the Nova Scotia / Atlantic Cup series. Jordan finished first overall among 12 competitors on the circuit for 16-18-year-olds racing in Nova Scotia. The Martock skier had 13 podium finishes in the 2008/09 season and was one of four Nova Scotian’s to earn a 2010 Ski Canada Magazine Award.”

Sport Nova Scotia recognized MSRC’s Edward Whitehouse as the winner of the 2010 Ricoh Fair Play Award: “Edward Whitehouse has been a member of the Martock Ski Race Club for the last four years. Any challenges he has are overshadowed by his attitude towards the sport of skiing and, even more so, towards his teammates.”

Never Miss Another Race Notice

Notices for all upcoming races attended by MSRC are posted on the side bar of every page of the club’s Web site. The notice for this month’s Poley race has just been posted.

In the same area of the side bar you may also access race results, both live as they happen and after the fact.

If you would like to see one of your race day photos posted in a future news item, upload it to the club’s Flick’r site. News photos are chosen randomly from these Flick’r photo sets.

Coaches Add Tunes to Races

Wooooh… MSRC’s coaches have discovered they can link the club’s video recorder with their iPods. Check out the most recent uploads on MSRC’s YouTube site. Here’s one of Nick at Crabbe:

Live Race Results

February 27, 2010 | Comments Off | NEWS

Can’t make it to the race this weekend. No problem.

Kudos to Susan for suggesting we link ACA’s live results to MSRC’s Web site. You’ll find the link entitled “Race Results – Live” on the side bar of every page, in the “MSRC Links” section, just under the YouTube video. If you want to view the results of past races in the Atlantic circuit then click on “Race Results – Past”.

Got an idea on how to improve MSRC’s Web site – send it to the club’s webmaster or just bend his ear at the hill.

Attention All Decks

Your executive officers have new orders – to boldly take MSRC’s communications program to new frontiers.

Seriously, we are steering a different course with the club’s Web site. In addition to providing documents, forms and contact information, the new site tries to provide a sense of what the club and its programs are all about. MSRC is competitive, with regular podium placements, but it is also a club that introduces children to the sport within a structured environment. Participation results in new friends and long memories, for athletes and volunteers alike.

In part, we hope to accomplish this objective through linkages to other forms of media, and by giving the club’s Nancy Greene program the profile it desires. Our Nancy Greeners may be a foot shorter than a ski pole, but they represent the foundation of alpine skiing.

When putting the site together, MSRC applied the latest blog technology, embraced social networking and utilized the talents of an outstanding photographer and digital graphic artist, but we will not reach our destination unless you, the members of MSRC, participate. Be bold, be brave, be silly, but above all – be there. Upload your photos, your videos, your views, your news and comments.
